Textile work commissioned for a book by Members of the May 13 Oral History Group, published by Gerakbudaya, 2022. This is a landmark book of oral history about the deadly racial riots that happened in Kuala Lumpur on 13 May, 1969.
The patchwork was created from fabric scraps in red, white, blue and yellow – our national colours. It was damaged intentionally with tears and stains, then mended visibly. The 20 pieces of visible mending correspond to the 20 stories in the book.
The artwork was exhibited as part of Steep and Sample: Possible Futures/Impossible Present, May 2022 at A+ Works of Art.
