Pattern. Print. Process.
22 July 2017, Saturday, 3 – 5pm
47 Malan Road Gillman Barracks
#01-25 Singapore 109444

Meet Sharon Chin, the artist of ‘Local Flora‘, and print your own pattern with her and her collaborators, Bogus Merchandise.

In this workshop, participants are invited to take a peek into the process of creating ‘Local Flora’, both from a pattern design and conceptual perspective, and how these patterns were brought to life through screen-printing on used fabrics.

There will be a screening of two videos selected by Sharon:

‘Between Memory and Museum’ (20 mins), a short film produced by Tara Books, an independent book publisher based in Chennai, India. Their extraordinary books are made in collaboration with local artists and craftspeople.

‘Marthe Armitage: Back to the Drawing Board’ (8 mins), about the British designer who produces wallpaper printed from linoblocks carved from her own hand-drawn designs.

This will be followed by a short conversation between Sharon, guest curator Sharmin Parameswaran, and Syahidah Nawar Ismail and Sanan Anuar of Bogus Merchandise.

Finally, there will be a screen-printing demonstration using the actual patterns featured in ‘Local Flora’. For those interested in making their own print, bring along a piece of fabric with you (preferably light-coloured and larger than A3 size) and you will be able to print a piece of Local Flora for yourself (and take it home with you)!

Register to secure your spot in the workshop!
Your place is reserved for one week upon registration until participation fee is made.
Limited to 20 pax, $10 per pax.
