Exhibition: The Art of Giving, 29 Mar – 5 Apr 2015, Black Box Publika

I donated two handsewn banners for this exhibition in support of SEED, who run a community centre for the urban poor and marginalized of Chow Kit. The government cut their funding cut late last year.

The exhibition is over, but they are still very much in need of donations. You can contribute by banking in directly to their account: CIMB – Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kebajikan dan Persekitaran Positif Malaysia – 8006999903.

Here’s a list of things they need:

About the exhibition:

For 7 years, the Pusat Bantuan Khidmat Sosial (Social Assistance and Services Centre) had served the urban poor and marginalised communities in Chow Kit. Run by SEED (Social and Enabling Environment Development), it provides referrals, peer outreach, safe spaces, community-appropriate information and capacity and skills building activities. However, in Dec 2014, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development ended the funding for SEED.

Inspired by those whom we serve and determined not to give up, we have moved to a smaller premise to continue serving. We are organizing some fundraising events for we are now dependent on the goodwill of individuals, groups and corporations to support us and help our community.

Photos of my banners in the exhibition. I used one in an anti-rape demonstration, and the other in a protest against the Sedition Act last year.
